How to make a Platform Game for Android in App Inventor.
Hello, well today I have another "huge" tutorial about making games in App Inventor. Today I will share how to make a Platform Game.
What is a Platform Game?
"A platform game (or platformer) is a video game which involves guiding an avatar (player) to jump between suspended platforms, over obstacles, or both to advance the game. These challenges are known as jumping puzzles or freerunning. The player controls the jumps to avoid letting the avatar fall from platforms or miss necessary jumps. The most common unifying element of games of this genre is the JUMP button. Jumping, in this genre, may include swinging from extendable arms, as in Ristar or Bionic Commando, or bouncing from springboards or trampolines, as in Alpha Waves. These mechanics, even in the context of other genres, are commonly called platforming, a verbification of platform." Wikipedia.
This kind fo games are really good to explain you some basic stuff from App Inventor when you use the Canvas.
So in this Tutorial we cover the following points:
--Design the Platform (the stage) (Inkscape) 2:39
-- Design the Player (Inkscape)
-- Export, Scale and Place the Platform and the player from Inkscape into App Inventor. Using procedures or functions to scale and place things in App Inventor Canvas. 18:35
-- Moving things in App Inventor using "Touch Down" and "Touch Up".
-- Making player "JUMP" using FLUNG (swipe)
-- Making the Player jump Forward, Bakwards or Up depending on the direction of the swipe or flung.
-- Adding an items to pick up
-- Making an enemie
-- Modifying the basic game concept to create your very own platformer.
